In the next IATA regulation (based on WHO standards) it is indicated that monkeypox (Mpox) will be considered category A only when the sample is in culture. So we asked Transport Canada about its intentions on this subject?
Transport Canada's answer.
We contacted the Division of Regulatory Development to inquire whether the reclassification of monkeypox virus from Category A in all cases to Category A only in culture form would be included in the next amendment to the BUH. Unfortunately, the classification of monkeypox virus cannot be changed between CGI and CGII. However, this change will be included in a later modification. Thus, in Canada, infectious materials of the monkeypox virus must be classified in category A, whether in culture form or not. However, a temporary certificate may be issued which allows monkeypox virus infectious materials to be classified as Category B when not in culture form. (TU 0886)
